Ah! Curse my fickle heart but I am in LOVE again! *throws self onto divan and sighs dramatically* When can I see him again? Does he even know I exist?? I can’t stand it!! Okay. Enough of the hanky twisting and check out my new obsession, artist and jeweller Joji Kojima. Born in California, Mr Kojima studied graphic design, photography and typography at Tama Art University, though he started making jewellery at the age of fifteen. While he was still in college he worked as an assistant at YOSHiKO CREATiON PARiS while establishing his own brand, Hotel Gluttony. His unique jewellery was rocketed into the public eye when he contributed jewellery (most notably his chain mask) to Lady GaGa for one of her albums, even before his debut collection released last year under his new brand name, Joji Kojima.

Danish design student Gwendolyn Huskens wanted to make a statement about the taboos of sickness and physical deformity and the beauty of imperfection..a designer after my own heart (though she’s probably make a shoe out of it) . Made from real medical materials like bandages, synthetic plaster, bandaids and stainless steel.

Im going to make the best of a bad pun and say I was rivet-ed by the explosive badassery of the work of talented metal workers out there at the moment..my obsession with futuristic industrial paraphernalia has come to a head and I have rootled out a few stand out art, shoes and jewellery pieces..the cuff directly below I HAD TO HAVE RIGHT THIS MINUTE so I bought it last night *chortles and hugs self in manic glee*..also check out the work by the talented up and coming Exosthetic Laboratories (link) who specialise in custom pieces. My Etsy lust has run amok. No seriously, its bad. I have decided that misery loves company so take a geeze at these amazing sneaker boots by Etsy whiz kid Moovmint. Just as Tantulus’ quivering lips strain towards the golden fruit, I dangle these unreachables in front of your despairing eyes. These are going for around two to three hundred US a pair, but the bleaching and applique detail on these are stunning, and each pair are custom made to your unique traits. Panic, suicide, looting. Falling on ones knees and screaming hoarsely at the sky, “WHHYYY????……can’t I afford these shoes??” These sweet spine heeled boots are from Dsquared2 which they showcased at Milan fashion week for their new 2010 collection, which had a decided vampish anatomical theme. As said by a hollow eyed, fellow trauma victim, “These are so fucking hot I want to blow my brains out.” Nuff said.

Up and coming Los Angeles designer Miss Jessica Darwin caught my attention with her awesome bullets coat dress and is apparently soon to come up with a ready to wear clothing line. Couldn’t find out much additional info on this bright young spark but instead of listening to me blather on for a change, just feast your eyes on some truly awesome designs made flesh with her dark materials..apparently she is still doing custom work until her label takes off. Remember you can get some amazing custom designed clothes before these designers get famous..make use of fashion graduates while you can!

I’m sure Alexander McQueen has the power to slide in and out of alternate realities and parallel dimensions for inspiration, because there is no other way to explain, in my mind, his constant creative ability to surprise. His recent fetishy shoe designs are especially brain-melty. Some look like snapped-off claws of huge space lobsters, and make me feel a little funny. Others look like radio active space foot fungus. But the real reason I decided to post about shoes yet again (sadly one of natures boot fiends, couldn’t give a toss about shoes, really) are the recent designs from his Spring 2010 collection, and plainly Steampunk inspired. I believe, from the gathering storm of Steampunk popularity it was bound to be discovered by international designers eventually, and I’m glad it was McQueen. As my favourite designer, you can trust him to get it right. These shoes are full of post-apocalyptic awesomeness (though I’d rather be wearing the boot version).

Ever found a designer so amazing and close to your heart, but then couldn’t really enjoy their awesomeness because you jealously wish you could have thought of their ideas first…? Anyone getting me on that..? Mother of London seems to me to be the Vivienne Westwood who went down the gothic path instead of the punk one. Or, maybe more accurate, a female McQueen. At any rate her amazing edgy leather confections have been favoured by stage legends such as Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson and Juliette Lewis, and to me, a pretty well kept secret. I couldn’t access her website, but I’ll be sure to return and try again to find out some more juicy personal details. And APPARENTLY, a Mother of London ready to wear collection is soon to be launched..better sell that kidney to be able to afford a piece I’m betting..sigh..

An Artist Is Only As Good As His Tools

God, I love this guy. Rich, the man behind Spragwerks jewellery is clearly a man of refined tastes and pleasures. Formerly of the heavy duty diesel mechanic trade, his industrial aesthetic is clearly seen in his personally hand crafted jewellery, which explores the ideas behind the consumption of one thing by another, and the relationship between the organic and the industrial. I especially love his hypodermic needle earrings, metal corset rings and his torture device collection (especially the meat hook) aptly named “Tools of the Trade”..for which I would happily sacrifice my grandmother for. And wrecking all the collars of my clothes.
